Bobby Ray Mullens – Obituary

Bobby Ray Mullens (82) of Beckley, WV went home to be with his heavenly father on July 8. 2023 at 11:15 PM in the Bowers Hospice House. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after a battle with lung cancer as well as other medical conditions. He was a beloved Christian, father, grandfather, friend, and husband for over 60 years. Bobby was born on April 17, 1941, in Pineville WV and was a graduate of Pineville High School, class of 1959. He spent his early years in life living at Wolf Pen, WV.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat Mullens. His daughter, Tammy Mullens Cook (Husband Jerry) and son, Bobby Joe Mullens (Partner Pam Browning). His 3 grandchidren, Tyler Pertee, Emalee Mullens, and Jake Cook. He is also survived by his oldest sister Betty Davis and youngest sister Beverly Gordon and sister-in-law Rosalie Staton. He is preceded in death by his mother Erie Mullens and Father Raymond Mullens, and younger sister Linda Gunter.

Bobby lived life to the fullest and was an avid Baptist, outdoorsman, and a man of many hobbies. Some of which included serving his Lord and savior Jesus Christ, trout and smallmouth bass fishing the Potamac River, squirrel or deer hunting, square dancing with his wife, playing cards, spending the winters in Florida, spending time with his family and friends, and helping people in need. He also enjoyed going on cruises with his wife, the Alaskan cruise was his favorite. Bobby was often found volunteering at his church, church camp for children, and Toys for Tots. He also spent 12 years coaching little league in Pineville, WV in which he held great pride for influencing the growth of the players. He was also a long-time member of Pax Branch Baptist Church where he enjoyed listening to the word of Christ from Pastor Sam and Pastor Eric. Bobby also enjoyed watching old Westerns and was an avid fan of WVU Football and Basketball for many years. Bobby worked hard for many years supporting and providing for his family. He spent 3 years working for the town of Pineville, 7 years welding at the Newport News, VA shipyard, 6 years for JC hydraulics, and 28 years at the Coal Tipple at Bald Knob, WV; when he retired in 1998.

A gathering of friends and family will be held Thursday evening, July 13 beginning at 6 PM to 8 PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. His services will follow on Friday July 14th at 11 AM with Pastors Sam Vance and Eric Davis officiating. He will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the services. Pallbearers will include Bobby’s grandsons Tyler and Jake, his son in law Jerry as well as other beloved family members: Jerry Dickens, Dan Robertson, and Michael Cochrane. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Pax Branch Baptist Church Building Fund or Bowers Hospice House of Beckley, WV in Bobby’s name.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Beverly Gordon and Rosalie Staton for always being there to help and to Bowers Hospice House for their extraordinary care and compassion.
